Frequently pretentious since 1971. Clearly ambiguous since 2000. Completely and utterly incomprehensible since 2006. Warning: may contain synonyms.

Oh UW. I am Irish too. And still think that it's fair game. As pretty much - no wait, more than pretty much - everything is. (I don't drink Guinness either. For the record. I may have to give up my passport. But there you have it. It's purple anyway.)

I thought it was pretty funny (surprises self with comment, looks around to make sure no one noticed and goes back to lurking)

Mary-Jane, I hope I made it clear - and I think I did, a number of times through that entry in my typically over-apologetic way - that what I wrote above was supposed to be in humour. Whether or not it's your sort of humour - and true enough, I'm gauging so far that it doesn't appear to be many people's idea of humour - is anoher matter.

I can understand your very personal reaction to these momentous (yes, they are momentous) events in Northern Ireland. Like most right-minded people, I think they're momentous too. But I think it would have made a spectacularly boring blog entry (and probably not one even worth bothering about) to merely appear here and spout various words to communicate that. So I didn't, and I took the piss out of it again, in my own unique style, as I have done before. And almost no one found it funny.

So maybe your viewpoint is justified.

Oh dear, I've just talked myself into a corner.

i am irish. from northern ireland. born and bred in belfast throughout my 33 years. and i think this post is in very bad taste. but I suppose blinkered crap like this is to be expected from someone in the safe and secure south of england who never had to live through what the people of northern ireland experienced over decades. so you were bored of hearing about the troubles on the news? dont you think we were too? we had to see them in front of us too. petrol bombs and marches and all that other laugh a minute stuff.

these events ARE momentous. its extraordinary that you can sit there and rubbish them. what youve written wasnt humorous. it was bad taste and offensive. grow up.

this post is both hilarious (the "Sometimes Ian will give and Gerry will receive, other times vice versa" part made me coke on Diet Coke) and interesting/thought-provoking. let's hope that this DOES turn out to be a Good Thing and things can really start to settle down in NI.
