Some words of enti(t)lement

Whilst it is indeed true that I do own an extremely well-thumbed thesaurus, when indulging in yet another game of Scrabble I have also found that it greatly assists me in maintaining a winning rack of letters to think of the written inspiration provided by a select few personal publishing websites (or ‘blogs’, as I believe the fashionable people are calling them) that happen to exist in various far-flung corners of the internet.

spilling mind riddles is a glorious phrase!

did you have a competitor in phrasitileology?

    Miles Away | 04.26.07, 21:22

No competitor. *Sniff* I was playing on my own. Like any good blogger does.

    An Unreliable Witness | 04.26.07, 21:24

    Oh I approve, I approve!

    Of number four, especially.

    Jack | 04.26.07, 21:31

Good Blogger (desc). “Guh-d Bloh-gah”. One who plays on their own.

    (?)

    Miles Away | 04.26.07, 21:34

    mind-spilling riddles… Yes.

But I still pine for those Peruvian sparks.

    overnighteditor | 04.26.07, 21:51

Grr. This comments box plays crap scrabble.

Put spaces before the o and the h.

    Angelalala | 04.26.07, 21:55

Jack — Yes, number four gave me a particularly Scrabulous thrill, it has to be said.

OE — The mind-spilling riddles are rather new to this pair of eyes, but I agree that the Peruvian sparks are hugely missed. What are your thoughts, however, on unedited vitality?

Angelalala — Yes, this comments box Scrabble is rather awful. I’m sure Wordpress would make a killing if they introduced a Scrabble plug-in.

    An Unreliable Witness | 04.26.07, 22:05

Scarbble! Well there’s a good start, ahem, Scrabble! Chez nous it’s Pontoon with a determined young ‘I make the rules’ type son thus complicating a really very simple game. When you stick, you stick right? You don’t unstick, or (his words)‘offer my final ultimate stick’.God, Pooh sticks was easier, but that was many moons ago. I like your scrabbling. Especially Ukulele. It happens to be one of my favourite words, and I would love to own one.

    seahorse | 04.26.07, 23:46

I am puzzled by the Christian imagery here, all those crosses, you know… Oh drat, am missing the point as always. What a futtock I am!

    Ariel | 04.27.07, 00:21

Seahorse — Should you wish to own a ukulele, I happen to personally know some ukulele experts who would be only too willing to advise. Twang.

Ariel — Gosh, you’re right. I hadn’t noticed. I guess it must be a clue as to the almost ‘religious’ experience it is for me to read mnay of these sites.

Now, of course, I am looking at all the photos worrying that one or some of them might display an evil upside-down cross … oh dear.

    An Unreliable Witness | 04.27.07, 00:30

Yaxlich wouldn’t consider himself to be an expert on Peruvian sparks but he can tell you that they don’t go out very often.

Most of the sparks he knows are Polish. They must all come from the Gdansk Electrical Company.

    Yaxlich | 04.27.07, 00:32

    Oh alright then…
    In order:

    Beautiful
    Ramblings
    Mental
    She-on-honeymoon
    Acts of

    …all I got so far

    overnighteditor | 04.27.07, 00:59

Welcome Yaxlich — An Unreliable Witness believes that there are a fair amount of Lithuanian sparks as well. But this is from personal experience.

OE — See, I knew you wouldn’t be able to resist playing the game. Bravo. Your selections are not bad so far, but I fear that I will have misled some people by using references that are in some cases semi-private ones between myself and the blogger in question. That’s cheating, I know, but I didn’t say I was offering a prize. No holidays in Majorca here, sadly.

    An Unreliable Witness | 04.27.07, 08:12

This is all about me, isn’t it?

    {tis very imaginative}

    andre | 04.27.07, 08:53

    baking ukuleles — that’s me! that’s mee!!!

    (I am very excited)

    Cheerful One | 04.27.07, 10:04

I think you will find that “baking ukuleles” is a coded message to me.

    {only best UK blogger in the whole wide world ever 2007 understand the code}

    andre | 04.27.07, 11:14

I am never going to play Scrabble with you.

    {although you only ever play with yourself — obviously. we know that.}

    annie | 04.27.07, 11:32

    {its also the cleverest post in the world, ever}

    annie | 04.27.07, 11:32

Andre — Yes, all about you. Honest.

Cheerful One — Don’t tell Andre, but this post is really all about you.

Annie — Thank you fur such a compliment. As regards the other point, it’s true that I like Scrabble so much that I spend almost every weekend at home playing with myself. And playing Scrabble.

    An Unreliable Witness | 04.27.07, 11:49

In my egocentricty, I have decided that one of them is me. Well, I’ve sort-of decided. I’m not 100%.

    mike | 04.27.07, 12:10

you didn’t even use a dictionary either

i am officially a bit jealous

    annie | 04.27.07, 12:20

Mike — I have decided on a policy of neither confirming nor denying anything, because otherwise everybody seems to believe this post is about them (© Andrew Jerdin). So I am remaining firmly zip on this matter, awkward sod that I am.

Annie — What is a dikshunery?

    An Unreliable Witness | 04.27.07, 12:20

i also like the last one the best

i also know of a certainty that they are undoubtedly
    all about Mr Andreas Jardin

    annie | 04.27.07, 12:22

Mr Unreliably Esquire: I don’t know, but I like your spelling of it.

Dick-shunnery is a very interesting word.

    annie | 04.27.07, 12:24

See, if I’d known at the time why you were asking me to pick a word I would have chosen something that made me sound much more mysterious, alluring and yes, downright attractive than ‘futtock’.

    Jack | 04.27.07, 12:30

Annie — Dick-shunnery. I had not thought of that. Oh God. *shiver*

Jack — Please see the comment above in which I say that I can neither confirm nor deny which set of Scrabble tiles are about which infamous blogger. ‘Sperm backlog’ and ‘futtocks’ might not relate to you. Though I am sure you have lovely futtocks.

    An Unreliable Witness | 04.27.07, 12:36

    Dick-shone-airy

    is that any better?

    annie | 04.27.07, 13:19

about the one with the futtocks — after sperm and before backlog, are you allowed to use one of the blank cards to signify a space?

    [/pernickity]

    miles away | 04.27.07, 13:58

Dick-shinery? After all, so many of them need polishing…

Number one is my favourite. I love the idea of baking ukuleles.

And Scrabble is a brilliant game for playing Solo. It’s kept me awake many a night.

    Clare | 04.27.07, 13:58

Right. Please can we all stop talking about shining and polishing dicks? This is not that sort of blog. Things around here tend towards respectable, not smut. Really. (I’ll just sit here and wait for Jack to vocally disagree then, shall I?)

miles away — you’re right, that was a highly illegal use of the blank tile but — but — but! Oh. Grrr.

    An Unreliable Witness | 04.27.07, 14:04

What a way to catch me unawares, MRW. I didn’t have to show you after all.

Excuse me while I hide in the corner and sort out my face. Ignore that, that’s just the smell of my cheeks scorching. Ignore that sound too, it’s the sound of my waterfall tears marking their sizzling path on my burning face.

I will be ready in a second.

    the lamb | 04.27.07, 14:08

    Yes, but.
You’ve actually missed alot of triple word scores.
But its a very nice board.

    annie | 04.27.07, 14:41

The Lamb — You are too kind, but really there is no dress code for this site, as anyone who has recently seen my alarming hair and frequently unshaven visage will attest to.

Annie — Right then, I see the only way to end this is that I’m going to have to challenge you to a game of Scrabble [insert evil laugh here].

    An Unreliable Witness | 04.27.07, 14:44

    I humbly accept.
    {insert trembling terror here}

    annie | 04.27.07, 14:55

    Speaking of which…

    Clare | 04.27.07, 17:19

    anyone for scrabble?

    no?

    pah.
