I am giving up writing because … #24

Writing online is dead. Dead, I tell you. Daily updates through the medium of expressive mime are where it’s at. And I am trapped in a box. It is made of glass. It is a metaphor, probably. Now, please give me your money.

Will you take three pretty buttons and some pocket lint that I’ve thoughtfully shaped into a globulous monster? I also have a gum wrapper, a few expired bus transfers and a single silver paperclip if the aforementioned payment isn’t quite enough.

Yes, I agree. Stop giving away your special and unique talent for free. From now on, you should only submit your best writing to commercial publications and use your blog to alternately promote those who publish you and whine (in your most irritatingly nasal voice) about those who don’t.

If you reach, let’s say, # 250, the book is done. Believe it or not, it would be easy to find an editor (i.e., money). I see it already: “250 reasons to quit writing”. With a preface by Slavoj Zizek (google him, in case:) who will explain why communication *and* virtual communication are dead.

Jess — That’ll do nicely. So much more of an individual payment than American Express.

Ani — I have already been submitting my writing to commercial publications. But You and Your Garden magazine sent my masterpiece back with a curt ‘No’.

Lore — Communication is dead. Fortunately responding to comments is still alive and kicking. God, I love the internet.
