Cold storage
The winter was long, cold and just a little strange. It was spent in an industrial freezer, with the light turned off. The sealed door was opened occasionally to allow hands to stretch and warm themselves — touching surfaces with fingers, exploring what was happening outside. However, they soon retreated back into the shadows.
Spring arrives with little or no fanfare, and it’s time to emerge. Reconnect. Rebuild. Rediscover. Hands are warmed through and begin exploring once more. The final analysis is that life in the freezer is good in small doses. Sometimes it is useful to spend a little time watching icicles forming, concentrating deeply and not blinking for fear that something important might be missed. Yet it doesn’t suit everyone, and it can’t last forever.
